Born 6th March 1896 in Williamstown, Victoria Son of Thomas Washington and Catherine Aitken Occupation prior to enlistment Steel moulder Enlisted 12th July 1915 in Williamstown, Victoria Served in Egypt and France Killed in action close to Cordonnerie Farm at Fromelles on 15th July 1916 He has no known grave and is commemorated on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial.

AITKEN, Thomas Washington
Service No. : 2954 Private 8th Battalion
Born 4th June 1894 in Williamstown, Victoria Son of Thomas & Catherine Aitken Thomas worked as a fitter and turner before enlisting into the AIF in Melbourne on 12th July 1915. He served in Egypt, France and Belgium. He was one of three boys from the Aitken family who served overseas in WW1 the others being Josephus and Stanley. Following the war he returned to Australia on 5th July 1918 and was discharged on 14th January 1919. He was a recipient of the 1914/15 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal. He died in NSW on 29th May 1962.
