"A noble hero true and brave, peacefully sleeps in a soldier's grave"
This old postcard was given “ to Bugler Alfred France from Private F. E. Dimmick and Private H. Bennet”. The hand writing on the back of the card is in pencil and is very faded, however, research has found that F. E. Dimmick is definitely, Frank Ettrick Dimmick and H. Bennet, I “think” is Herbert Victor Bennet. All men served in the A.I.F - First World War.
Alfred France (Service number 2604) enlisted in Brisbane, QLD, while Frank Ettrick Dimmick (Service Number 1918) and Herbert Victor Bennet (Service number 150) both enlisted in Melbourne.
Alfred whilst serving in the 12th Battalion and Frank in the 21st Battalion became prisoners of war together in Germany.
