ANDERSON, Walter Arthur
Service No: 4055 Driver 21st Battalion
Born Carlton 1884 Occupation prior to enlistment Decorator Walter married Hilda Lucy (nee Colston) and had three children at home at 117 Separation Street Northcote when he enlisted as a Private in the AIF on the 12 July 1915. He embarked from Melbourne on the 17th March 1916 aboard the "Wiltshire" and served as a driver with the 10th Reinforcement of the 21st Battalion in France. He returned to Australia aboard the "Zealandia" on the 11th May 1919 and was given a medical discharge on the 28th June 1919. He received the 1914/1915 Star, The Victory Medal and the British War Medal for service to his country.

He was born in Trawalla, Vic 9/8/1892, Victoria, his parents were Julia (WILKINSON) and Henry Littlejohn ANDERSON Joined the AIF on 10/9/15. At age 23 yrs I mth. Previously rejected on medical grounds he was accepted to the Ist Remount Unit ,No 2 Squadron. He embarked at Melbourne per H.M.A.T. A 67 “Orsova” on 12/11/15 He joined in Melbourne and his occupation at the time was hospital attendant although he was from a rural background and a competent horseman. He served in the Middle East, initially with Ist Remount unit and later the Aust Remount Unit and 9th Mobile Veterinary Section. He returned to Australia on the “Burma” 26/7/19 and discharged 21/10/19 He married Emily LYONS 12/6/1920 and settled in Brewster on a soldier settlement block and after rearing a large family retired to Ballarat in 1955.
