Born 1894 in Morwell, Victoria Son of Henry Shepard McINTOSH and Caroline nee SPARKMAN Of 323 Drummond Street, South Ballarat, Vic. Educated Morwell State School and Caulfield Grammar, and employed with the Morwell branch of the Bank of Australasia. Also served in the Citizen Forces prior to enlistment in the AIF on 25 June 1915. Embarked on HNAT A56 Palermo as a member of the 11th Reinforcement for the 4th Light Horse, but later transferred to the 2nd Div Ammunition Column and then to the 10th Battery, 4th FAB. McIntosh received a shell wound to the back on 20 Oct 1917 at Westhousht Ridge, Sans Souce, Belgium and died later at the Casualty Clearing Station. Aged 23 years Buried Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery XXV G 20A

Occupation prior to enlistment Labourer Enlisted 20 February 1916 Awarded Military Medal 'At ARMENTIERES on the night 26th/27th February, 1917, on the occasion of a raid by a Composite Battalion of his Brigade on the enemy trenches, he acted as one of the leading scouts in the first party of his Company. In approaching the enemy's front line all the members of his party but himself were wounded, and he himself was bombed by the enemy. He jumped into the enemy trench, shot down a German bomber, and lead his Company in. He subsequently showed great courage and devotion to duty during the operation. Strength of raiding party - 21 Officers, 804 other ranks.' Returned to Australia 27 July 1917
