Embarked 23 November 1916 on the HMAT Hororata
Previous military - 1st West Yorks - 3 years which he resigned from to emigrate to Australia. In 1916 he was diagnosed with lead poisoning.
Killed by shell fire at 10.45 pm first day in the front line 16 September 1917 at a oist at Nebub Road, Ypres after taking over the English line. Shell landed in the trench killing 4 others and wounding more. The Australians were being heavily shelled in retaliation for their shelling practice in preparation for the attack on the 20th.
Was buried in the field but later at: Buried: Hooge Crater Cemetery, Belgium Plot V, Row C, Grave No. 12.
